“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” - Anne Frank
Starting something new can be daunting, especially when it comes to education and career paths. But what if it's never too late to start? What if your dream is waiting for you to take the leap? This is the story of how I started studying psychology at 32, and how it changed my life in unexpected ways.
Event hough I have a nice and stable job for almost 8 years, I never could shake the feeling that I need something more.
That's when I started to consider pursuing my long-forgotten dream of becoming a psychologist. It was a scary thought, but I knew deep down that it was the right decision for me.
During my therapy sessions, I realized my passion for helping others and giving back. After starting volunteer work as a listener on 7cups: an emotional support platform, I helped a nurse set up a local support group and have been moderating it since then.
At first, I wanted to become a life coach, but after further reflection, I decided to pursue a bachelor's degree in psychology. In less than a month after making this decision, I emailed my therapist that I had enrolled in a school and arranged my study loan to pursue my passion for psychology.
I feel incredibly honored to have the opportunity to study psychology and pursue my passion for helping others. Now I finally feel like I am where I belong. I know it was the right decision for me. I am thoroughly enjoying the material and love how it challenges me to think differently and gain a deeper understanding of human behavior.
Studying psychology has also brought numerous benefits to my life. I am learning how to communicate more effectively, how to empathize with others, and how to better understand myself. Overall, I am grateful for this opportunity to pursue my passion and cannot wait to see where it takes me in the future. It's definitely not easy juggling studying with work, parenting, and other ongoing projects, but I am taking it one day at a time. I remind myself that progress is progress, no matter how small it may seem. Even though my plan is to graduate someday and become a psychologist, I remind myself to enjoy every moment of the here and now, without thinking too far ahead. The beauty of this process lies as much in the experience itself as it does in the outcome. Each day, I make time to study and prioritize my responsibilities accordingly. I know that with dedication and perseverance, it will be okay. Pursuing a dream can be daunting, and it's natural to feel uncertain or scared. But don't let those feelings hold you back. Take the first step, even if it's a small one, and keep moving forward. You are capable of achieving great things, and it's never too late to pursue your passions. Be patient with yourself, and take it one day at a time. And most importantly, don't give up. The road may be long and challenging, but the reward of fulfilling your dreams is worth it. So, go out there, chase your dreams, and live the life you've always imagined!
